Max “Buck” Wayne Smith

Max “Buck” Wayne Smith, 78, passed away at 5:30 am on June 23, 2017 at his residence.

Max was born on September 29, 1938 in Knox County the son of Joe and Ardith (Frederick) Smith. Max married Shirley Smith on October 7, 1960.

Max was a lifelong resident of rural Decker, a 1958 graduate of Decker High School and a truck driver.  He was a hard-worker who loved western movies and horses. He was proud to be one of the last ones to use work horses in the area. Max enjoyed his grandchildren and great grandchildren and was known to them as Poppy Max.

Survivors include his wife, Shirley Smith of Vincennes; daughter, Sandy Smith of Vincennes; son, Daryl Smith of Decker; daughter, Karen Tuttle and her husband Danny of Hutsonville, IL; grandchildren, Lacey Miller and her husband Charlie, David Smith, Tierra Terry and her husband Ryan, Kasha Miller and her husband Curtis, Chance Tuttle; four great grandchildren, two on the way; and several nieces and nephews. Max was preceded in death by his parents Joe and Ardith Smith, and his siblings, Morris Smith, Walter “Tub” Smith, Loula Belle Barmes, Jack Smith, Jerry Smith and Archie Smith.

Friends may visit with Max’s family on Monday, June 26, 2017 at Goodwin Funeral Home, 524 Broadway from 4-8 pm. Graveside services for Max will take place at 11:00 am on Tuesday, June 27, 2017 at St. Peter Lutheran Cemetery with Pastor Nathan Rastl officiating.
