A crash involving a semi and eight other vehicles occurred on Highway 41 near County Road 350 South in Gibson County Friday. The eight vehicles were stopped at the light when the semi rear-ended a car that triggered a chain reaction. Investigators are trying to determine how fast the semi was going. One person was seriously hurt and is being treated for a head injury at a hospital. Four others were taken to two separate hospitals to be checked.

Indiana State Police are joining law enforcement agencies throughout the state to participate in a Click It or Ticket campaign. The campaign is an annual effort to increase public awareness about the importance of seat belt safety. Troopers will conduct high-visibility patrols encouraging both passengers and drivers to buckle up. The Indiana Criminal Justice Institute reports more than a third of the 827 people who died on Indiana roadways last year weren’t wearing seatbelts. The campaign began yesterday and runs through June 4. More than 250 law enforcement agencies are participating with the state police.

Lawrence County authorities arrested a Bridgeport man on assault charges. Sheriff’s deputies charged 40 year-old John Simms Jr. with aggravated assault. Simms was taken to the Lawrence County Jail.

Gibson County authorities arrested a Vincennes man following a traffic stop on U-S 41 near County Road 400 West yesterday morning.
Sheriff’s deputies stopped an S-U-V driven by 23 year-old Trevor Lampert. Authorities found Lampert driving on a suspended license.
Lampert was taken to the Gibson County Jail.
