William Lee “Bill” Scaggs, age 87 of Sumner, passed away Friday, April 28, 2017 in Lawrenceville at the United Methodist Village- North Campus.
He was born June 28, 1927 in Lawrence County to Richard and Helen (Shaffer) Scaggs.
Bill married Marcella McCool in Olney on August 21, 1953.
As a member of the United States Army, Bill honorably served during the Korean War. He was a member of the Sumner United Methodist Church, and he was a former member of the Elks, American Legion. He also was a 39 year member of the Sumner Masonic Lodge. Bill worked at and retired from Marathon Pipeline after 39 years of service.
Surviving family includes: his wife of 63 years- Marcella Scaggs of Sumner: one daughter-in-law-Peggy Scaggs of Sumner: four grandchildren- Miranda Ash, Jared Scaggs, Brianna Crews, and Tyler Scaggs: and four great grandchildren- Olivia, Ryan, Chloe, and Maddex Crews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Helen Scaggs; one sister; and two sons, Garry Scaggs and Jim Scaggs.
A graveside service with military rites will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 2, 2017 at the Sumner Cemetery. Cunningham Funeral Home of Bridgeport is handling the arrangements.
