(AP) Indiana governor signs several education bills into law

Gov. Eric Holcomb has signed into law several of the education bills from this legislative session, including the state takeover of Muncie and Gary school districts.

Holcomb said at a news conference this week he believes the bill will help get schools back on track. Both districts are facing financial difficulties.

The measures he signed Friday also include a bill critics say loosens accountability of voucher-accepting private schools and one setting parameters for a replacement exam for the much-maligned ISTEP after June 2018.

A bill that would close a loophole that Ricker’s convenience stores found to sell cold beer and a measure that would lower the current financial benefit to installing solar panels are still on the Indiana Republican’s desk. He has declined to comment on both
