Jane “Jaynie” Elizabeth Gates

Jane “Jaynie” Elizabeth Gates of Vincennes, passed away at 9:45 p.m. Thursday, April 20, after an extended illness.


She was born June 1, 1951, in Washington, to William Dwight and Isabelle Victoria (Matthews) Gates.
She is survived by her mother, Isabelle Gates of Vincennes; her sisters, Rebecca (Allen) Logan of Mooresville, North Carolina, Victoria (Steven) Olson of Louisville, Kentucky, Mary Susan (Jeffrey) Zinkan of Palm Harbor, Florida, and Loretta (Kevin) Day of Vincennes; her nieces, Kelley (William) Zinkan, Greta (Todd) Weller, Krista (Brian) Olson, and Kara (Randall) Maramonte; her nephews, Jon Paul (Lacy) Davis, Geoffrey (Sara) Zinkan, Kyle (Solveig) Olson, Zachary (Sharon) Logan, and Stephen Day; along with two great-nieces, six great-nephews, many loving cousins and her former spouse, Vic Edwards.
She is preceded in death by her father, William Dwight Gates; two sisters, Rachel (Gates) Byrd and Sheila (Gates) Maramonte; an infant brother, William Joseph Gates; and her stepfather, Paul Bradley.
Jaynie had been a pharmacy technician in West Virginia and had also worked at Crane. She will be remembered for her kind heart, generosity and unfailing sense of humor and wit. Jaynie was a devoted companion to her mother, Isabelle, over the past five years. She was a member of the Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary and always enjoyed the camaraderie of its members.
