The Vincennes City Council has jumped on board and agreed to support updates to the city’s skate park located at Lester Square Park.

Recently, a local businessman, Thomas Tucker of Homebase Skate Supply in Vincennes, has spearheaded a fundraising effort to upgrade and repair the skate park which was built for about $125,000 during former Vincennes Mayor Terry Mooney’s administration.

The Vincennes Sun Commercial says city councilman Scott Brown who lives near Lester Square Park,  heard of Tucker’s activitues and decided to bring the issue before the council.

City Parks Superintendent Steve Beaman appeared before the council last night along with Aaron Spohn, a skate park consultant from California, who happened to be in the area visiting other communities.  He came to Vincennes at no cost to the city advising them last night of what would be needed to get the skate park up to par.

The newspaper reports that after much discussion. the city council decided to hire Spohn for $5000 to conduct a public meeting, meet with local skaters, and more closely examine the existing facility and put together a design plan.  A proposal is expected to be presented to the council next month.
