Man pleads guilty before trial starts

An Edwardsport man pleaded guilty in Knox County yesterday after jury selection and before opening statements in the start of his trial.

55-year-old Keith Rogers was on trial for Battery Resulting in Serious Bodily injury dating back to an August 10th 2015 incident.

Rogers entered a guilty plea to the Level 5 Felony saying he struck the victim, his fiancé, in the face hitting her head against something. The woman’s’ nose and orbital socket were broken.

The possible sentence is 10 to 6 years with a possible fine up to $10,000.

The jury for the case was selected on Tuesday, but Rogers’ guilty plea ended their role in the case.  Knox County Prosecutor Dirk Carnahan thanked the jury for their participation.
