Lincoln Football Coach is let go

football-2

The Vincennes Lincoln football program is looking for a new head coach.

The Vincennes Community School Board voted 3-2 in favor of not renewing Jon Heiden’s contract. Heiden has served as the varsity football coach for the last 11 seasons.

The vote went against a recommendation made by the high school principal and athletic director to renew Heiden’s contract. School board members Karla Smith, Lynne Bobe and Aaron Bauer casted the affirming votes to essentially fire Heiden, while Pat Hutchison and Barb Toole voted against the motion.

Heiden and his family were in attendance at Monday night’s meeting, along with several staff members and football players. Heiden told the paper that he just learned about the contract renewal three and a half hours before the meeting.

The board did not take public comment during their vote.
