Jessica Rae Downey, 21, of Vincennes, passed away on Thursday November 24, 2016 at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.
She was born November 26, 1994 in Vincennes to Michael and Shannon (Thompson) Downey.
Jessica graduated from South Knox High School in 2013, and attended Vincennes University. At South Knox, she played soccer and track, competing in the shotput and disc. Also at South Knox she served on the prom court, yearbook staff, was the class clown, and was involved in other student activities. While attending Vincennes University, she worked at Sun Tan City and also at Applebee’s. A member of the Calvary Apostolic Church in Lawrenceville, she enjoyed working out in her spare time.
Surviving are her parents, Michael and Shannon Downey of Vincennes; her daughter, Layla Downey; her brother, Michael Downey of Vincennes; her sister, Gracie Downey; and her grandparents, Howard and Nina Downey, and Glenna Robinson.
She was preceded in death by her grandfather, Theodore Ray Thompson.
A Celebration of Jessica’s life will be held at 10:30 am Saturday December 3, 2016 at Goodwin Funeral Home with Pastors Jason Richardson and Clint Crossen officiating. Burial will follow in the Bruceville Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-8 pm Friday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the family for Layla’s college expenses.
