BUS STOP SIGNS

The Vincennes Board of Works has agreed to the placement of bus stop signs around the city. The signs would make motorists aware of designated points where Vincennes School Corporation buses are picking up or dropping off students.

VCSC Spokesman Tim Salters says its part of a new transportation system the corporation is planning to roll out starting next year.

Salters says the bus stop signs were used on a trial basis at Riley Elementary which he says not only helped improve the efficiencyof picking up students, but also traffic safety as well.

The Vincennes Street Department will install the signs for the School Corporation. Salters say the glossy signs will be placed below stop signs and will have the words bus stop located below the School Corporation’s logo.

ENGINEERING CONTRACT SIGNED ON THE MAIN STREET PROJECT

The Vincennes Board of Works signed a contract with Clark-Dietz Engineering to design the Main Street Road Project for 430-thousand dollars..

City Engineer John Sprague says the first phase of the project will be from 22nd Street to the Jamestown Apartments and include widening the road and adding street lights.

Sprague indicated the Vincennes Redevelopment Commission is paying for the 1st phase of the project with construction scheduled to get underway sometime in 2018.

Phase Two of the work will extend the improvements to just past Henry Sievers Road. Sprauge says they hope to secure an 80/20 matching grant through INDOT for the second phase of the work.

KIMMELL ROAD EXTENSION WILL OPEN SOON

The Kimmell Road Extension connecting Hart and Main Streets is expected to open within the next couple of weeks once street lighting is installed.

City Engineer John Sprague told members of the Vincennes Board of Works that the lights were delivered Monday and work should begin shortly to place them along the new stretch of roadway.

Sprague says a ribbon cutting ceremony is being planned to dedicate the new road which runs through the former K-Mart property.

The new roadway includes a roundabout which will allow traffic access to various parts of the property which is being developed by realtor Heath Klein.
