The Bicknell Police Department is purchasing a drug dog with the assistance of the Knox County Prosecutor’s office.

The  Knox County Council Tuesday appropriated money from the Prosecutor’s Drug Forfeiture Fund that will go towards the purchase and care of the animal.

Deputy Prosecutor Joe Burton told council members that the Bicknell Police Department had received a number of donations from area residents to help acquire the dog.

Burton says the K-9 officer is expected to hit the streets sometime in February once it goes through training.

Councilman Randy Crismore a former Vincennes City Police Officer says the K-9 officers are valuable tool in dtug investigations.
