The Vincennes City Council has appropriated funds to receive a matching grant for the City’s Police Department.

Police Chief Dusty Luking says the grant will pay for an engineering study and to look at potential upgrades to the Police Headquarters at 501 Busseron Street,

The city is putting up 50-thousand dollars in matching funds to obtain the nearly 103-thousand dollar restoration grant.

The building which was once home to the post office and other federal offices is nearly 100-years old.

The police department earlier had obtained a grant through the department of Natural Resources Historic Preservation fund to replace windows in the building.

Luking says they are close to awarding a bid for that project in the near future.
