Vincennes Mayor Joe Yochum spent a portion of his Saturday teaching residents how to drive on the city’s new roundabout.

The mayor took residents on a drive through the new stretch of roadway located on the former K-Mart property between Hart and Main Streets or they could drive it themselves.

Yochum says the circular roadway will benefit planned development of the former property. He also believes the circular road will reduce the chances of accidents occuring.

Yochum says for those who were unable to come out Saturday for a test drive. The city has a video on its website at Vincennes-dot-org which explains how to drive on the roundabout.

Developer Heath Klein owns the property which the roundabout runs through. He’s proposed developing it into a retail area. The roundabout will enable motorists to access the various stores which will eventually occupy the property.

The 2-million dollar roundabout was built with funding from the City’s Redevelopment Commission. Yochum says the road will likely open towards the end of this month or early December once traffic signals have been installed.
