Fire destroyed a home early Thursday morning in Vincennes.

The fire at 818 N. 4th Street was spotted by a Vincennes City Police officer while on routine patrol around 2:12 am Thursday.

According to Fire Chief Sonny Pinkstaff, the officer spotted smoke in the area

Upon further investigation, the officer found the one story structure to be on fire.

Pinkstaff says smoke and flames were visible coming from the roof of the house when the first fire units arrived on the scene.

The fire was brought under control in about 45 minutes. The owner of the house Angela Allis and her son were evacuated by police officers after they had attempted to enter the home to retrieve some personal items.

At this time, Pinkstaff says the fire is being listed as accidental although he couldn’t rule out the cause as electrical.

Total Damage to the home was estimated at 30 thousand dollars.

There were no injuries  reported.
