VIncennes PD gets $ for bulletproof vests….blighted home destruction continues…

–The Vincennes City Council appropriated funds last night for the purchase of 14 new bulletproof vests for members of the police department. Police Chief Dusty Luking says they were awarded a grant for 4-thousand dollars through the Bulletproof Vest Partnership program. He told council members that they’ve also been awarded a grant for 6-thousand dollars through the same program so they can replace additional vests for the department.
—-The City of Vincennes is preparing to tear down nine more homes that have been deemed uninhabitable. The city’s Board of Works yesterday received one bid totaling over 72-thousand dollars from Mullins Supply of Bicknell to demolish all nine structures.The city previously received over 400-thousand dollars from the state’s blight elimination program and have targeted more than 30-homes for demolition. Mullins bid was taken under advisement. City Inspector Phil Cooper hopes to have the structures torn down by the end of the year.
