Riverwalk to be opened Friday

The City of Vincennes will hold a ribbon cutting ceremony Friday at 5:30 pm to celebrate the opening of the Riverwalk Project along Culbertson Boulevard.

Mayor Joe Yochum told members of the City Council last night that contractors are finishing up work on the project this week.

Councilman Tim Salters asked who will be responsible for maintaining the walkway once its finally opened. Yochum says the city parks department will maintain it. He says some of the landscaping that’s being put in is maintenance and will not require a lot of upkeep.

The city was awarded a one-million dollar grant for the project over 20-years ago and after several delays a contract for the work was awarded this past spring.

Yochum says part of the delay was due to work related to the Wabash River Levee.

The Public is invited to attend the ribbon cutting ceremony which will take place at the Main Street end of the Riverwalk .
