LANDFILL

The Knox County Commissioners on Monday approved a bid to install additional soil vapor probes and venting at the old Edwards Landfill. The Vincennes Sun Commercial reports the engineering firm that monitors the landfill, Strand Associates Inc. — reviewed three bids and recommended that Evansville-based Hinderliter Environmental Services to do the work at a cost of around $5,475. The landfill north of Bruceville was closed in 1997 when regulators found harmful pollutants seeping into groundwater supplies, but the county has remained responsible to maintain and test the site for 30 years following its closure.

HIGHWAY

The first phase of paving that’s been paid for by INDOT’S Community Crossings Matching Grant Program is complete. County Highway Superintendent Donny Mize told the Knox County Commissioners Monday that the resurfacing of US 41 is done. The Vincennes Sun Commercial says Mize updated the commissioners on what will happen next.  The plans are to resurface Mount Zion Road and remove and replace two small overpasses there.  The county received over $400,000 in funds through the program.
