John F. Cardinal, 82, passed away at 6:15 am on October 15, 2016 at his residence with his family by his side.
John was born in Knox County, IN on April 30, 1934 the son of John F. Sr. and Theresa (Lang) Cardinal. He married Shelby Meier on August 3, 1953 and she preceded him in death on June 10, 2006.
John was a member of St. John Catholic Church and was a business owner, owning several business’s in the Vincennes area. He was a lifetime member of the Elks and Knights of Columbus and enjoyed his family and traveling. John also enjoyed working in the yard, was always busy with a project outside, and was a very social person who always enjoyed being with friends.
Survivors include his son, Mike Cardinal of Vincennes, his companion Marge Tolan of Oaktown; grandchildren, Stephen Cardinal, Carrie Cardinal and Ross Burch, Matthew Cardinal and Daisha Smith; great grandchildren, Thomas John Burch, Robert Joseph Burch; brothers, Norman Cardinal of Tucson, AZ, and Dale Cardinal and his wife Shirley of Vincennes. John was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Shelby Cardinal and his sister, Irene Dunham.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 1:00 pm on Wednesday, October 19, 2016 at St. John Catholic Church with Rev. David Fleck and Rev. Donald Ackerman as Con-celebrants. Friends may visit with Johns family on Tuesday, October 18, 2016 at St. John Catholic Church from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm and on Wednesday from Noon until the time of Mass at 1:00 pm. Goodwin Funeral Home, 524 Broadway has been entrusted with Johns final arrangements. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Good Samaritan Hospice or the Christian Education Foundation.
