The event was part of the Knox County Development Corporation’s annual Opportunity Knocks Tour.

KCDC President and CEO Kent Utt says they received positive feedback from students following last year’s tour that they decided to host the event again. Utt says the tour exposes the students to a variety of job fields including manufacturing, technical and vocational skills .

KCDC partnered with eight companies including Futaba, Far Best Foods, Good Samaritan Hospital and Vincennes University to showcase the number of that are available in the community. The Reverand George Karl, Chairman of the County’s Life Enrichment Foundation says one of the goals of the tour is to get students thinking about possibily starting a career close to home instead of moving away from the communities where they grew up.

The students were able to interact with employers and ask questions about wages and benefits, job skills needed to secure a job at one of the eight businesses that participated in the tour.

Utt says last year’s resulted in several students receiving internships with the companies they visited and hopes that will be the case again this year.
