The Indiana Department of Transportation says the bridge will remain close for the next 180-days while the structure undergoes extensive maintenance repairs.
Many downtown merchants in Vincennes are concerned about the impact the closure will have this close to the Holiday Season.
Rick Patterson, owner of the Record Cellar on Main Street says Illinois customers make up 50-to-60 percent of his business.
Aaron Bauer owner of Bauer Jewelers says that while the bridge closing is going to be an inconvenience to their Illinois customers, he believes that they’ll be willing to drive the extra miles because of the unique stores Vincennes has to offer.
Bauer indicated the closing of the Lincoln Memorial Bridge will be the topic of discussion when the Vincennes Central Business District meets this month.
