The Knox County Public Library board will meet next week to decide whether to take on the costs of maintaining  a  mini-library in Wheatland.

According to the Vincennes Sun-Commercial. The owner of the property where the book station is located is wanting to sell the property to the library for 5-thousand dollars.

Library officials had initially estimated the cost for operating the book station would be somewhere between $11,000 and $16,000 a year. Library Director Bunyan Emily Bunyan told the newspaper after pairing down some of the costs the figure would be closer to 8-thousand.

The property located at 158 E. Old U.S. 50 has served as a steady source of internet access and books for nearby residents since it opened in 2012 — many of whom don’t have any other means of getting online or borrowing reading material.

Library Director Emily Bunyan says she was unsure what direction board members were leaning toward and encouraged community members to attend next Tuesday’s meeting to show their support for keeping the book station open.
