Good Samaritan Hospital is working to put a spotlight on a major public health crisis….suicide.

Statistics show that every 13-minutes, a person dies in the United States by suicide. And locally, one in three individuals has been impacted by suicide.

In order to raise awareness and break the silence of suicide, Good Samaritan Hospital’s Samaritan Center will be hosting a Suicide Prevention Walk this Saturday from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Gregg Park in Vincennes.

The event will start with a bead gathering ceremony that will be followed by personal stories detailing the occurence and impact of suicide. An optional one-lap walk will take place and a balloon dedication will close the ceremony.

Good Sam’s Andrea Cole says attendees can help spread the word about suicide prevention, participate in the walk or donate to the Samaritan Center Foundation to help individuals in need and help with expanding the suicide prevention program.
