Quake Cottage in Vincennes this week

The public can experience what it is like to be in an earthquake Thursday through Sunday in Vincennes.

The Quake Cottage will be located at Vincennes University’s parking lot adjacent to Green Activities open to the public from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Thursday. Friday through Sunday it’ll be open as part of the Knox County Torch Relay Bicentennial Celebration beginning at 1 p.m.  at Grouseland, adjacent to VU’s Green Activities Center.

The Indiana Geological Survey (IGS) is beginning Year 5 of its Quake Cottage, an earthquake education program for citizens of Indiana. The Quake Cottage provides citizens with a safe yet realistic experience of the intense shaking that can occur during an earthquake.
. The Quake Cottage is an earthquake simulator that mimics the shaking experienced during earthquakes having magnitudes up to 7.0
