INDOT grant money could cause a rise in material costs

As Indiana cities and towns prepare to spend a windfall of road repair money handed back to them by the Indiana General Assembly, some officials worry a glut of requests could drive prices up.

Vincennes Mayor Joe Yochum acknowledges that is a concern. However, the city has planned ahead and already identified which projects they are going to address.

Yochum says when contractors know they’ll have steady work over the next year or so they’ll bid accordingly. He believes that will keep bids from coming in higher than anticipated.

Vincennes received 800-thousand dollars through INDOT for road paving. The money will be used to resurface the parking lots at 4-Lakes Park and Hill Field. The work also includes resurfacing both the tennis and basketball courts at 4 Lakes Park and the Vaughn Walking Trail at Gregg Park. Milestone Contractors of Bloomington was recently awarded the bid for the project by the city’s Board of Works.
