Vincennes Township Fire Department gets honored

The Vincennes Township Fire Department picked up several awards over the weekend at the Indiana Emergency Response Conference.

The district won Fire Instructor of the year which recognizes a fire district that has made Indiana’s fire service training safer, more effective and more professional. The training division, managed by Deputy Chief Eddie King, is responsible for training the career and volunteer members of the department and  provides nearly 7,000 contact hours of training each year. They also provides training to many other Knox County fire departments as well as other departments within southwest Indiana.

Also, Brian Dodd of the department was named Fire Officer of the Year.  He’s been with the department for 18 years with a passion for water rescue as he commands the dive rescue team.

IN addition, Larry Shots was named firefighter of the year. Shots’ is instrumental in the department hazmat operations and is the department’s EMS director and works duty shifts and commands the ladder truck and station.
