VINCENNES SCHOOL BUDGET

The Vincennes School Board has approved the 2017 budget for advertising. The proposed budget estimate is over 30-million, 700-dollars. Superintendent Greg Parsely acknowledged some of the numbers are inflated to ensure that they receive the maximum amount possible to fund the operation of the schools.

The budget is based on an assessed valuation of just over 625-million dollar. Parsley says they’ve had to work with some extremes in the assessed valuation due to property tax caps, but those appear to have leveled off and is not growing at a rate that would push the tax rate down.

The tax rate for 2017 is set at a little over two dollars which is similar to last year’s rate. The Department of Local Government Finance will review the school corporation’s budget and make revisions as needed.
