Cities calling for change in Indiana redistricting.

The Anderson City Council has joined Vincennes to become the sixth Indiana municipal legislative body to pass a resolution calling for a citizen panel to take over the drawing of district lines for seats in the U.S. Congress and the General Assembly.

The Herald Bulletin reported Sunday that two public interest groups, Common Cause Indiana and the League of Women Voters, are urging local units of government to pass such resolutions. Anderson this month joined Michigan City, South Bend, Lafayette, West Lafayette and Vincennes in doing so,

Legislative districts are redrawn every 10 years following the release of new census data. In Indiana, redistricting is done by the state Senate and Indiana House of Representatives and signed off by the governor. The next Indiana redistricting in will take place in 2021.
