Construction is expected to get underway within the next month on the City of Vincennes’ new water plant.

The City’s utilities services board Wednesday awarded the contract for the 4-million dollar project to Wabash Utilities of Vincennes. Wabash was the low bidder on the project.

The new plant will replace the existing facility which is 60 years old. Utility Services General Manager Kirk Bouchie says the new plant will provide greater storage space for chemicals used in the treatment of the city’s water supply.

Plans also call for replacing an old cast iron pipe in the well field and adding two new water lines.

Bouchie says the scope of the work will be paid for thru an increase in water rates over the next two years.
