City budget talks begin tonight

budget-3

Vincennes Mayor Joe Yochum is feeling optimistic ahead of the city council’s budget meeting. Council members will meet with department heads this evening  and Thursday at City Hall to discuss budget requests for 2017.

Yochum says things are going smoothly for the city financially and he really stressed the importance of maintaining a 3 percent raise for city employees.

Yochum says city department requirements pretty much stay on a cycle. The council is preparing to order a new firetruck with the last truck being paid off this year. He noted another goal for the budget meeting is to get a process in order to get a better handle on replacing police cars.

The meeting gets underway this evening and Thursday at 5 PM.
