The Knox County Development Corporation is looking at opportunities to expand Broadband Service in the County.

KCDC Executive Director Kent Utt says they are hoping to obtain a grant that for a feasibility study that will determine cost factors and implementation.

Utt says he’s spoken with 8th District Congressman Larry Bucshon who indicated that there are federal grants available to assist communities with the expense of putting the infrastructure in place for broadband services.

With Knox County being one of the larger counties in the state, Utt acknowledged expanding broadband services will take several years to complete, but he says it should pay dividends for the county down the road.

KCDC Board Members this morning approved spending 75-hundred dollars to hire Keller-McIntyre & Associates. The Washington D.C. firm will assist local officials with writing the proposal for the grant.
