The Vincennes Redevelopment Commission hears the latest on the plans to upgrade Four Lakes and receives bids on tearing down a building at 6th and Main.

Vincennes Parks Superintendent, Steve Beaman, told the Redevelopment Commission  Thursday they are ready to start putting out work bids for the complete renovation of Four Lakes Park. Beaman says they are going to bid out everything; including the new shelter house, sidewalks, parking lot, restrooms, baseball field, playground equipment, and spray park. Back in March, the Redevelopment Commission pledged over $300,000 to modernize the park.

Beaman says he has heard nothing but positive feedback from the public.

Construction is expected to begin in the Fall. The spray park is the first item on the list to be built because of underground piping. Part of Four Lakes Park will be closed until renovations are complete.

The Vincennes Redevelopment Commission received two bids for the demolition of the building located at 6th and Main Streets. During Thursday’s meeting, City Engineer John Sprague presented the board with bids from Robinson Excavating and Mullins Supply. The original estimate for the demolition was listed at $40,000. The Board of Works will select the contractor at their next meeting. Ellen Harper, Executive Director at INVIN, says they will meet with the appointed contractor and set a date for the work to begin. The vacant building is being demolished and replaced by a new downtown parking lot.
