Several Activities and Celebrations Planned Around the Area for the Upcoming Holiday Weekend

  • The Washington Bicentennial Celebration gets underway today at Eastside Park. The carnival opens at 5pm tonight with Daviess County Has Talent Show at 6. For a complete event & entertainment schedule, visit washingtonin.us.
  • Vincennes Mayor Yochum invites all community residents to visit the food and merchandising vendors in the Patrick Henry Drive area beginning around noon. The annual July 4th Parade is scheduled to step off at 6:00 that evening from the Second & Hart Street intersection. Immediately following the conclusion of the parade, Mayor Yochum welcomes everyone to attend the presentation of and reception for Jim Osborne, this year’s “Spirit of ’76 Award Winner”, in the Harmony Society at approximately 7:30 p.m. The annual fireworks display, sponsored by the Vincennes American Legion, will be shot off from the Lincoln Memorial Bridge beginning at dusk.
  • The 59th Annual Jefferson Township Ruritan Celebration starts tomorrow and continues through Monday, July 4th. Rides on the Midway open each day at 4pm. Demo Derby at 7pm Saturday night, Little Miss Firecracker 6:30 Sunday night with the Lucas Oil Tractor Pulls at 7pm, and the Annual Parade through Otwell at 10am Monday.   • 10th Annual Bicknell Freedom Bash will take place tomorrow at Bicknell’s Northside Park. Activities will begin around Noon. There will be Inflatables, food, live music from 8-11pm from the band Naked under Our Clothes and a fireworks display at dusk.
  • The Linton Freedom Festival started Saturday, June 25th, but continues through the 4th of July. Carnival Midway opens at 6pm each evening at the Linton City Park. The Linton Freedom Festival Parade is billed as “Indiana’s Largest Independence Day Parade”. The parade will bring in nearly 40,000 people to Linton to enjoy the floats, bands and clowns.   • The 31st Annual Shoals Catfish Festival begins today and continues through July 4th. Enjoy crafts, sporting & cooking contests, music, The Great Catfish Parade, and of course, fireworks.
  • West Boggs Lake will have their annual fireworks display at dusk Sunday, July 3rd.
