Vincennes University Track & Field and Cross Country Coach Chris Gafner is among 41 people from Knox County honored by the state as Bicentennial Torch Relay torchbearers.

Names of more than 2,000 Hoosiers nominated and chosen as torchbearers were announced Wednesday in Indianapolis by Indiana Lt. Gov. Eric Holcomb and state tourism officials.

The Torchbearers were nominated by the public and selected by local committees on a county-by-county basis. The Torch Relay will start September 9th in Corydon and culminate with a celebration on October 15th at the Indiana Statehouse in Indianapolis.

The Torch will arrive in Knox County on Sunday, September 11th. The Torchbearers will carry the torch into Vincennes where it will be placed on display at Grouseland where a number of activities are being planned in conjunction with the Bicentennial Torch’s arrival.

The Torch will remain overnight September 12th before continuing on its journey to Pike County the following day.
