Knox County’s hazardous-materials drop-off facility at 1600 Bayou Street in Vincennes will remain closed next month.
Officials with the Solid Waste Management District had hoped to reopen the facility on July 1, but interim executive director Michelle Smith tells the Vincennes Sun-Commercial that they’re still working on hiring someone to staff the facility.
Smith says it takes a specialized skill set to deal with household hazardous waste material and they haven’t been able to hire anyone yet. While the facility remains closed Smith told the newspaper they are planning on having a special household hazardous waste collection day sometime in August or September, so folks can get rid of any materials that have collected at their homes or businesses.
