11-year-old Indiana Girl Dies After Lightning Topples Tree Onto Cabin

Authorities have identified the 11-year- old girl who died after lightning toppled a tree onto a cabin at a southern Indiana camp.

The Switzerland County Sheriff’s Office says Jadyn Erin Larky of Bexley Ohio died when a tree fell on the cabin she was in along with three adult camp counselors and other campers. Lightning hit the tree about 2 a.m. Tuesday and the tree fell on the building. It says Jayden was pronounced dead at the scene, at Camp Livingston in Bennington, about 40 miles southwest of Cincinnati, Ohio.

Camp Livingston officials posted a message on its Facebook page saying no one else was injured.

Camp Livingston is a Jewish overnight camp for children between the ages of 7 and 17 and has been in operation for over 90 years.

Several rounds of storms passed through the area early Tuesday. The National Weather Service warned of high winds, heavy rain and frequent lightning.
