Anhydrous ammonia spill killed fish in a Greene County creek this week.

Worthington Fire Chief Kyle Steward says firefighters used about 30,000 gallons of water to wash away anhydrous ammonia that spilled onto the ground after a tank fell from a swerving truck and onto its valve, releasing the chemical.

The Indiana Department of Environmental Management says 500 gallons of the chemical spilled and the runoff flowed into Lattas Creek less than 300 feet away, killing the fish. The creek empties into the west fork of the White River.

The Indiana Department of Natural Resource has identified about 15 fish species affected by the spill.
