The Vincennes School Corporation will offer a pre-school program this fall for children turning age four by August 1st of this year. The first class will be held at Vigo Elementary Schooll. Principal Kelly McCarty says the goal is to help students be better prepared when they begin their formal learning years.

McCarty says the preschool class will provide core foundations and skills that children are to achieve to be ready for Kindergarten. The preschool class will operate from 8-to-11 am five days a week. McCarty adds afternoon daycare will be provided along with lunch. She says there will also be an option for after school care as well. Registration will be offered to children of VCSC faculty and staff for a period of time. If space is still available, McCarty says registration will be opened to others on a first come first served basis. The fee for the full day program will be 100-dollars a week with an additional fee of 25-dollars a week for after school care. The Vincennes School Board last night approved the hiring of a teach and two instructional aides for tjhe 2016-17 school year.

Suerra Rasico, a seventh grade student at Clark Middle School is the recipient of this year’s Nonte Accelerated Reader award. The award is named for former Vincennes School Corporation Superintendent Tom Nonte. Rasico accumulated 1-thousand 49 points based on the number of books she read throughout the school year. Her name will be added to a plaque that will be on display in the School Corporation’s administration building. The accelerated reading program encourages students to do more leisure reading. At the end of each school year, those students who’ve garnered the most points are recognized. Other award winners recognized during last night;s Vincennes School Board meeting included Jonathan Soderling, a fifth grader at Franklin Elementary, Zander Devin a 3-grader at Riley, Chad Beery, a 4th grade student from Tecumseh-Harrison and 5th Grader Amber Worland of Vigo Elementary. .
