The world premiere of Alice of Old Vincennes: A Musical will open on May 27th at the Red Skelton Performing Arts Center in Vincennes. The musical is based on Maurice Thompson’s historic romance novel Alice of Old Vincennes, a popular hit throughout the United States after its publication in 1900. The novel has been adapted for the modern stage by Dr. James Spurrier, who is also the production’s director.

As Spurrier explained during his appearance on WVUT’s 22 Magazine, the cast is a mix of professionals and locals.

Adding to the presentation is original music by Broadway composer Jay Kerr, along with original lyrics by Indiana poet and lyricist Dr. Laurel Smith. The musical will take place at Red Skelton on May 27-29 and June 3-5. Tickets are $25 for orchestra seating and $20 for mezzanine level and can be purchased by calling the Red Skelton box office at 812-888-4039.

To watch director Dr. James Spurrier and lyricist Laurel Smith discuss the musical, tune into Vincennes WVUT’s 22 magazine Saturday at 7:30.
