Work starts this summer and will continue into the first semester.

The Vincennes School Board has awarded bids for renovations to the corporation’s four elementary schools. The 38-million dollar project gets underway as soon as school ends later this month. The major focus will be on Riley Elementary this summer and will include the installation of new doors and, windows as well as brand new heating and air conditioning systems. Superintendent Greg Parsley says that due to the bids coming in lower than expected they will be able to make some additional improvements.

Students at Riley will be displaced for at least the first semester of classes next fall. The school board has entered into a lease agreement with three area churches to provide classroom space while remodeling is underway. Parsley says the VCSC will pay for utilities and some maintenance costs to the churches. There will be a meeting this Thursday at 6pm in the Riley Elementary gymnasium for parents to outline what will be taking place this fall.
