It’s Primary Election Day

Knox County voters turned out in great numbers to vote early for Tuesday’s Primary election In Indiana. 270,000 voters in the state have voted absentee.

 

 

 

 

Knox County Clerk Terri Allen says a total of 19-hundred-28 people voted absentee. Allen reported a total of 12-hundred-37 walk-in votes at the Knox County Courthouse while another 636 voted by mail.

Allen says voter turn out numbers are greater this election cycle compared to last.

Allen says a lot of the interest in this year’s election is due to the race for the White House where Republicans Donald Trump and Ted Cruz are fighting for votes and delegates.

Hillary Clinton did not make any Indiana appearances yesterday.

 Besides the vote for Presidential nominees, Hoosiers in the 8th District have contested races on both sides.  Incumbent Dr. Larry Bucshon is challenged by Dr. Richard Moss if Dubois County.  On the Democrat side Dr. David Orenclicher and Sullivan County Attorney Ron Drake.

The GOP has two Indiana Congressmen are running for Dan Coats’ open Senate seat.  Todd Young  and Marlin Stutzman are fighting to be on the November ballot.

This year’s primary election in Knox County is “lean” on locally contested races. There are four Democrats seeking the Three at large seats on the Knox County Council. Incumbents Mike Thompson, Tim Crowley, Brian Downen are looking to hold off a challenge by Tom Peters. Thompson is the veteran of the group having served on the council for the last 28-years. Crowley was elected by Democratic precinct committeemen to fill the late Steve Thais’ unexpired term. Prior to being elected to the Council, Crowley served as Judge of Knox Superior Court-One for 18-years before retiring in 2014. Downen, a Knox County farmer was elected to replace Terry Johnson at the end of last year. Peters worked for Essex Wire for 20-years serving as a United Steel Workers union representative.  Polls are open till 6 tonight.
