Bloomington to Martinsville leg of the interstate not slated to be done until the middle of next year.

A portion of the Interstate 69 extension is going to be delayed. Section 5, which connects Bloomington to Martinsville, is now scheduled for completion on June 28, 2017. The section was originally scheduled to be completed in October. Indiana Department of Transportation Spokesman Will Wingfield says the delay will not affect the cost of the project for taxpayers. Wingfield did not give a specific cause for the delay. Last month, INDOT announced its recommendation for Section 6 of the extension, connecting Martinsville to Indianapolis. The department is recommending using State Road 37 to complete the extension.
