A public hearing is scheduled this evening at Vincennes City Hall to allow input on rate hikes being proposed by the Vincennes Water Utilities.

The rate hikes are part of a 20-million dollar upgrade that would include construction of a new water plant. Included as part of the project is 4-million dollars in upgrades to the wastewater treatment system to eliminate phosphorus materials. The latter is part of a new E-P-A mandate which the city has no control over.

Water Utilities General Manager Kirk Bouchie says the upgrades are necessary for the long-term sustainability of the city’s water system.

The rate hikes would go to pay-off bonds to cover the cost of the planned improvements. The public hearing is set for 5:45 this evening at City Hall.

Due to the public hearing, the Vincennes City Council has moved its regularly scheduled meeting to tomorrow night (Tuesday).
