April is Sexual Assault Awareness month.

A workshop was held on the Vincennes University campus yesterday to in an effort to prevent sexual assault from occurring.

The keynote speaker was Caryn Burton who happens to be a victim herself.

She hopes that those who participated in training will approach the subject in a sensitive manner.

Burton says sexual violence doesn’t discriminate, anyone can be a victim.

According to the National Sexual Violence Resource Center, one in five women and one in 16 men are sexually assaulted while in college, and more than 90 percent of those assaults go unreported.

Burton says tough conversations need to start happening for sexual assault to change.

If you or someone you know has been a victim of sexual assault there are local resources that can help.

Hopes Voice has a 24 hour hot-line for victims, and can be reached at 812-899-4673.
