April is Prevent Child Abuse Awareness Month.

Child abuse and neglect can affect children of every age, gender, race and income level.

Last night, organizations from all over Knox County came together at the Washington Christian Center in Vincennes to raise awareness about prevention.

Supervisor with the Knox County Department of Child Services Michael Summers, says there are warning signs of child abuse to be aware of.

Prevent Child Abuse Awareness Month is a time for families and communities to come together to honor the children affected by abuse and neglect.

Board President for Prevent Child Abuse Knox County Tanya  Bezy says there are ways community members can help prevent child abuse from happening.

Stress, substance abuse, isolation, and immaturity of the parent are just a few risk factors that can contribute to abuse and neglect of children.
