A Knox County man was critical injured after being shot by police last night in Speedway, Indiana.

Authorities report a  standoff between Speedway police and a man barricaded inside a minivan ended in gunfire Thursday night. It started around 1:10 p.m., when officers attempted to serve a warrant on 57-year-old Douglas Gaultney in the area of Cunningham Drive and 18th Street. Gaultney was wanted out of Knox County on a probation violation warrant stemming from a possession of marijuana charge. When officers tried to serve the warrant, the Gaultney reportedly brandished a shotgun gun at officers. The standoff continued for hours and drew in assisting officers from IMPD and the Indiana State Police. State police attempted to use tear gas and an armored police vehicle to get Gaultney to come out of his van. Around 7 p.m., Gaultney exited the vehicle and pointed a shotgun at police. Officers then fired, striking and critically injuring him. No police were injured in the exchange. Gaultney was still listed in critical condition at Eskenazi Hospital.
