The City of Washington presented potential economic development plans over the weekend for land in the area of the I-69/US 50 interchange located east of the city.

The plans entail creating a zoning district along the Exit 62 area. Officials on hand said that proposals would include extending the four lanes of US 50 east to CR 350 E.    There is a possibility of another interchange at CR 200 N to access the proposed industrial areas.  The plans also call for a wastewater plant and an electric substation to supplement Washington’s electric grid and sewer system.

Daviess County Economic Development Foundation Director Ron Arnold put the price tag for all the infrastructure developments at $20 million, but said costs could be offset by State and Federal grants and funds, along with potential private funding.

The city will hold a public hearing on April 28, to discuss the designation of a Planned Unit Development District to be called the Washington Employment Zoning District.

Mayor Joe Wellman commented the proposals are only proposals and nothing has been set in concrete.

The plans are a continuing effort to prepare for and attract potential industry and business to that portion Daviess County.
