Area between Belle Crossing and Eastwood Drive to close on Monday, theft arrest reported late yesterday, Wal Mart to open a milk plant in Fort Wayne..

 

ROAD CLOSING

INDOT says they’ll closed Old 50 between Belle Crossing and Eastwood Drive on Monday.  Contractors will be demolishing the overhead bridge deck on US 41.  The official detour is Belle Crossing, Wheatland Road and Eastwood Drive.   The closure is expected to last Monday through Thursday next week.  Use caution when driving in that area and along the detour route.

 

KNOX ARREST

Vincennes police arrested 30-year-old Jamie Blan at 650 Kimmel Road at 6:15 last night.  He was charged with a misdemeanor count of theft.

IMM WW1 EVENT

The Indiana Military Museum in Vincennes will pay tribute to those who fought in World War 1 this weekend. The event will commemorate what at the time was called the “War to End All Wars” and was one of the most deadly conflicts in human history.

Museum Curator Jim Osborne, says they’ve recreated a World War I trench out in the battleground area. Re-enactors will give tours of what life was like in the trenches. There will be staged battles taking place twice daily at 11:30 a.m. and 2 p.m.

Osborne wants to host a WW I event each year until 2019, which will mark the 100th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Versailles (Ver-Sigh) which marked the end of the war.

The weekend event runs 9 to 4 Saturday and Sunday. Outside exhibits are free. Admission to the museum is 5-dollars and 4-dollars for veterans and seniors.

 

WAL MART MILK PLANT COMING TO FORT WAYNE

-Wal-Mart plans to build a multi-million-dollar milk processing plant on 80 acres of farmland south of Fort Wayne International Airport. A company spokesman tells the Fort Wayne Journal Gazette that $19 an hour will be the average wage for the more than 200 workers who are expected to be employed at the facility by the end of 2017.

 

INDY AIRPORT SCRAPS 500 MILLION DOLLAR PROJECT

-The Indianapolis International Airport board has cancelled a proposed $500 million medical center and sports complex amid pressure from community leaders worried about the developer’s ability to pull off the massive project. The Indianapolis Business Journal reports the board unanimously rejected all proposals Friday for the unused 130 acres at the airport’s former terminal, and said it would start over.

LEANORD SENTENCED TO LIFE ON FRIDAY

– Bob Leonard, Jr. will be spending the rest of his life in prison. He was sentenced yesterday (Friday) in Fort Wayne after being convicted last month of murder, arson and insurance fraud charges. Leonard was accused of playing a role in blowing up his half-brother’s house in the Richmond Hill subdivision in Indianapolis in 2012. That explosion killed two next door neighbors and damaged more than 80 other homes. His half-brother, Mark Leonard, was also sentenced to life in prison in August.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

PACE EVENT

Recharged and moving forward!

That was the motto Thursday night at the PACE community action agencies annual Stakeholders event.

Awards were given and partnerships were honored.

PACE Chief executive officer Dr. Bertha Proctor said each community they serve she considers a stake holder for PACE.

During Dr. Proctors speech she stated that within the next five years they hope to roll out a Stem Program for girls, a womens business group and a remodeling business in the community.

Associate Director Tai Blythe says stake holders are vital to PACE’s accomplishments and future endeavors.

The keynote speaker of last night’s event Sister Simone Campbell is an accomplished lawyer, lobbyist and author.

Her mission in life is to fight for those left out of the economy.

She says organizations like PACE who help out those less fortunate are essential to the betterment of the country.
