Lawrence county leaders vote to collect more from video gaming

The Lawrence County, Illinois Board amended the county’s gaming ordinance increasing the amount the county collects from video gaming machines.

County Board Chairman Bill Gray indicated that the county is in need of additional operating revenue. After a review of income generated by video gambling, Gray says the board decided if they could receive a small percentage of that revenue it would help the county’s bottom line.

Along with raising the fee for serving alcohol at restaurants and bars, Gray estimates the county will receive about 25-thousand dollars annually.

The Board also revised the hours that bars and restaurants in the county can operate on Sunday’s, The new hours are from 12 to 10 p.m. The revisions follow complaints by one restaurant owner who complained about the discrepancy in the hours that restaurants who don’t have video gambling are allowed to operate.
