Evelyn Newman, 88, passed away at 12:15 am on March 16, 2016 at the New Willow Manor Nursing Home. Evelyn was born on August 22, 1927 in Vincennes, the daughter of Charles Leroy and Georgia (Tisdale) Williams. She married George Newman on August 30, 1948.
Evelyn worked as a telephone operator with Indiana Bell for several years and later worked for Anthis Heating and Cooling retiring from there. She was a member of Community United Methodist and enjoyed sewing. Evelyn was a wonderful cook and enjoyed taking care of her grandchildren.
Survivors include her husband, George Newman of Vincennes; sons, Dave Newman and his wife Patty of Cypress, TX, Thom Newman and his wife Denise of Vincennes, Jeff Newman and his wife Julie of Vincennes; daughter, Chris McCrary and her husband Troy of Vincennes; half brother, Leroy Williams and his wife Kathy ; half-sisters, Sue Moore, Beverly Andrews and her husband Ray, Doris Gray and her husband Kent; grandchildren, Eric Newman and his wife Lori, Travis Newman and his wife Cassi, Kevin Newman, Jessica Swan and her husband Jason, Jenna Hudson, Corbin McCrary, Trent McCrary, Lauren McCrary; and eight great grandchildren. Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, grandson, Brad Newman and great grandson Cole Newman.
Funeral Services for Evelyn will be held at 7:00 pm on Monday, March 21, 2016 at Goodwin Funeral Home, 524 Broadway with Rev. Cheryl Garbe officiating. Friends may visit with Evelyn’s family from 4 pm until the hour of service time of 7:00 pm on Monday at the funeral home. Burial will take place at a later date.
