Starting Monday March 21st, the City of Bicknell will be enforcing a restriction on the weight of trash that the city will pick up from local residents. Trash bags are to be no larger than 33 gallons in size or exceed 30 pounds in weight. Trash bags in excess of the above restrictions will not be picked up and will be tagged by city personnel. Residents must re-bag the oversized bags before they will be collected.

Bicknell mayor Thomas Estabrook states this is a matter of employee safety.

Other than the weight regulation, the city has asked that bags be tied at the top and not covered with bleach or any other kind of chemical.

In another matter addressed by the city council on Monday, the city of Bicknell has accepted a bid from Mullins supply for $37,000 to tear down six more blighted properties. Bicknell considered three different bids, but decided to move forward with Mullins supply for the demolition. Before the homes are to be torn down, the city needs inspection and approval from the Indiana Department of Environmental Management. After the six properties are torn down, it will put the cities total at eight blighted properties destroyed. City attorney Michael Edwards says they would like to get ten more down before the end of August.
